Lot 27
1856 Flying Eagle Cent. NGC graded Proof 65. A stunning, absolutely gorgeous well struck example of this classic rare issue. The diagnostic lump on the serif of the N in CENT is present, confirming the proof status. Delicately toned with a natural blending of light pastel iridescense which adds to this coin's beauty. A few trivial marks here and there, none of which can be seen without the aid of magnification, of which some are on the holder and not on the actual coin. Always in strong demand for its tiny mintage and inclusion in all those date sets. NGC reports 22 in this lofty grade with 2 in PF-66 and 1 in PF-67 (PCGS # 2037) .
Estimated Value $24,000 - 27,000.

1864 Indian Head Cent. Copper-nickel. PCGS graded Proof 66 P.Q. To call this absolutely spectacular pristine proof example a superb gem proof does not do it justice. This example is as close to perfection as it gets. The coin is well struck with incredibly deep cameo surfaces that are virtually perfect. In a 1st generation holder. PCGS reports 9 in this grade with 2 better in Proof 67. I'd like to see what PCGS calls better as this cataloger would like to match this specimen up against any other copper nickel Indian no matter what date as his candidate for "finest known". Be prepared for some wild bidding on this one! (PCGS # 2265) .

1873 Indian Head Cent. Open 3. PCGS graded MS-64 Red. A handsome specimen with nearly full original mint red and relatively mark free surfaces. A minor spot or two do not materially detract. The reason for the open 3 variety was that Chief Coiner Snowden complained that the closed 3 could be easily mistaken for an 8 on small denominations. His comments found the right ears, as the Mint Director promptly ordered changes to the open 3 on this and other denominations. Pop 45 with 20 in 65 Red and 4 in 66 Red (PCGS # 2107) .

1941 Lincoln Cent. Error collectors or Lincoln cent specialists will love this most interesting lot of 11 error coins consisting of broad struck, double struck, triple struck and capped die varieties. Dates range from 1941 to 1987. All are graded and encapsulated by NGC (one coin by NCS as damaged, for no apparent reason to our eye…aren't they all technically, by definition, as errors???). Grades range from MS-61 to MS-64. One triple struck 1964 is particularly dramatic and interesting and best of all, our consignor has had them all graded for you on his nickel. Lot of 11 coins.

1943-S Lincoln Cent. For the error collector or general Lincoln cent afficionado, this nice group of off-center strikes will hold much interest. Dates range from 1943 to 1987 and from 5% to 85% off-center. Random dates include 1943-S MS-64, 44, 47-S MS-65RB and others in the 60s, 70s and 80s. All are NGC graded from 63 to 67, with two in NCS holders as cleaned, these kind of nit-picky in our opinion. An interesting graded and fun lot which will probably sell for less than the grading fees! Lot of 17 coins.
